The Journey

Bhutan Stopover is a short, well-paced introduction to the kingdom, designed for travellers with only a few days, often added before or after a wider Himalayan journey through Nepal, India, Tibet or Sikkim.

In four days you walk up to Tiger’s Nest, explore Bhutan’s capital Thimphu, and visit the sacred landmarks of the Paro valley, all with a private guide and driver and smooth, unhurried logistics.

It is an efficient, high-value way to experience Bhutan’s essential highlights. It is not a full Bhutan journey — there is no Punakha, Phobjikha or central Bhutan — but it is a meaningful first taste rather than a rushed photo stop.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Is four days enough time in Bhutan? ↓+
Yes, for a focused first visit. Four days covers Tiger’s Nest, the capital Thimphu and the Paro valley at a comfortable pace. It is a meaningful introduction rather than a full tour of the country. If you have longer, our 8-day Bhutan Discovery goes deeper, adding Punakha and more time in each valley.
How difficult is the Tiger’s Nest hike? ↓+
It is a moderate uphill walk of around 4 to 5 hours round trip. Most reasonably active travellers manage it well at a calm pace with rest stops, and a pony is available for the first section to make it easier.
Can I add Bhutan to a wider trip through Nepal or India? ↓+
Yes. The stopover is designed to slot neatly before or after a wider Himalayan journey through Nepal, India, Tibet or Sikkim. We tailor the first and last days around your flights.
Can I upgrade to boutique or luxury hotels? ↓+
Yes. The journey is offered in Standard, Boutique and Luxury tiers, with premium stays such as COMO Uma Paro and Terma Linca available on request.
Can the itinerary be customised? ↓+
Absolutely. The pace, hotels, activities and flight timings are all flexible, and optional experiences such as a hot stone bath, archery or a Bhutanese dress experience can be added.
