The Journey

Bhutan Nature Retreat is a slow, scenic journey for travellers who want the country’s landscapes without a hard trek — pine forests, glacial valleys, rivers and quiet ridgelines, explored at a restful pace.

Over ten days you move gently through Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and the open Phobjikha valley, with easy-to-moderate walks, wellness touches, and long, unhurried lunches with mountain views.

Your private guide is chosen for their knowledge of Bhutan’s forests and birdlife, with culture woven in softly rather than as a checklist. It is a journey designed to restore, not to rush.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

How much walking is involved? ↓+
Walks are easy to moderate — typically 1 to 3 hours on gentle valley and forest trails, with rest stops and flexible pacing. There is no hard trekking and most days have a relaxed rhythm.
Is Tiger’s Nest included? ↓+
Yes, as a choice. On the Paro day you can hike Tiger’s Nest at a comfortable pace (a pony is available for the first section), or take a gentler monastery walk instead — whichever suits your energy.
Is this suitable for older or wellness-focused travellers? ↓+
Very much so. The pace is gentle, the stays are comfortable, and we build in spa time, hot stone baths and slow mornings. The maximum altitude is around 3,100 m, with easy alternatives throughout.
When is the best time for birds and cranes? ↓+
March to May and September to November are ideal for scenery and walking. Black-necked cranes are in Phobjikha roughly November to February, when the valley is at its most atmospheric.
Can the itinerary be customised? ↓+
Yes. Pacing, hotels, wellness add-ons and the balance of nature and culture are all flexible, and the journey can be shortened or extended around your interests and flights.
