The Journey

Bhutan is not a place you tick off. It is a place you exhale, where monasteries hang above pine forests, rivers thread fertile valleys, and a nation measures itself in happiness.

Bhutan is one of the few places left where travel still feels truly meaningful, quiet monasteries above pine forests, rivers threading through fertile valleys, and a culture that prioritises well-being through the philosophy of Gross National Happiness. This journey is designed for first-timers who want to see Bhutan's icons without feeling overwhelmed, with the comfort of private guiding and handpicked stays throughout.

This tour blends Bhutan's essential first-timer valleys with a calm, confidence-building pace. Expect private guiding, smooth transfers, and flexible comfort options, including pony assistance on Tiger's Nest. Beyond the icons, you'll enjoy hands-on cultural moments, wellness touches, and a pace that never feels rushed.

  • Welcome dinner and calm briefing with your guide
  • Bhutan etiquette, temple protocols, and pacing for comfort

Day 03

Tiger's Nest: Bhutan's most iconic pilgrimage

+
An early start for the Tiger's Nest hike, typically 4 to 6 hours round trip at a comfortable pace, with rest stops built in throughout.
A pony ride is available for the first section of the trail, saving energy for the steeper upper steps. Many of our guests find this makes the experience far more enjoyable.
At the monastery, your guide will help you understand why this place matters, not just the photographs, but the feeling of standing there. The view across the valley gorge is unforgettable.
  • Guided interpretation of the monastery's history and spiritual significance
  • Afternoon recovery: spa or hot stone bath, highly recommended after the hike
  • Or a slow café stop and gentle scenic drive if you prefer to stay moving

A slower, deeply satisfying day. The morning hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten is one of the best "quiet wow" moments of the whole trip, through fields and forest, with panoramic valley views at the top.
This hike is 2 to 3 hours round trip at a gentle pace. Perfect for guests who want natural scenery without intensity.
Afternoon: choose what suits you:
  • Spa or leisure time at the lodge
  • Village visit, simple conversations and local daily rhythms
  • River rafting (easy to moderate, season-dependent)

Can this trip be made more luxurious?↓+
Yes, hotel upgrades to top-end lodges, private dining experiences, and a slower pacing can elevate the journey significantly. Just let us know your preferences when enquiring.
Can the route or schedule be adjusted?↓+
Absolutely. This is our most popular first-timer itinerary, but we tailor it to your arrival and departure times, personal interests, and comfort level. Nothing is fixed until you say so.
Is this tour suitable for older travellers?↓+
Yes, this is one of our most comfortable itineraries. The maximum altitude is 2,350 m, pacing is fully flexible, and all activities have gentler alternatives. Many of our guests are in their 60s, 70s, and beyond, and describe this as one of the most meaningful trips of their lives.
