Bhutan Festival Tours -
Trip Overview

Immerse in Colourful Tshechus
& Living Traditions

Bhutan's Tshechus are not performances — they are living sacred events where communities gather for blessings, remembrance, and renewal. A Bhutan festival journey gives you rare access to the heart of Vajrayana culture: masked dances (Cham) that carry deep spiritual meaning, the vibrant dress and jewellery of locals in their finest kira and gho, and an atmosphere that feels both celebratory and deeply devotional.

This luxury festival tour is designed to let you experience that magic without the stress that often comes with peak travel periods. We handle all logistics — visa, permits, crowd-aware routing, preferred hotel selection — and create a calm rhythm around the festival days.

Your Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival in Paro — soft landing & acclimatisation
+
Arrive in Paro and transfer privately to your lodge. The day is intentionally gentle — hydrate, settle in, and take a short acclimatisation walk along the valley. Evening welcome dinner with an introduction to Tshechu etiquette: how to experience it respectfully, what the dances mean, and how we'll keep your festival days comfortable.
Dinner included · Overnight: Amankora Paro (suggested)
Day 02 Paro sightseeing — heritage introduction
+
A refined introduction to Paro's heritage — setting the cultural foundation so Tshechu feels meaningful rather than just spectacle.
  • Rinpung Dzong viewpoint and fortress architecture
  • Museum visit to build context before festival days
All meals included · Overnight: Amankora Paro (suggested)
Days 03–05 Paro Tshechu — three days of festival immersion
+
✦ Festival Days
Three full days dedicated to the festival — this is what makes the trip special.

Morning (festival focus): Arrive early for the best atmosphere: sacred masked dances, traditional music, and the collective energy of locals in their finest ghos and kiras. Your guide will interpret the symbolism so you feel connected — not just watching.
We build in shaded breaks and a private lunch plan so you can recharge properly and avoid fatigue. This is the key difference between premium festival travel and standard touring.
Afternoon (choose-your-mood): Depending on energy, we weave in quiet temples, short scenic walks, artisan visits, café stops, or simply return to the lodge to rest.
All meals included · Overnight: Amankora Paro (suggested) · Note: exact festival days vary by year
Day 06 Paro to Thimphu — scenic transfer & city tour
+
Drive to Thimphu (~1.5 hours). After Paro's festival energy, Thimphu feels like a calmer, contemporary Bhutan. Enjoy a light city tour: viewpoints, a monastery moment, and a gentle introduction to the capital's living culture pace.
All meals included · Overnight: Amankora Thimphu (suggested)
Day 07 Thimphu to Punakha — pass drive & dzong visit
+
Drive to Punakha (~3 hours), descending into warmer valley air. On arrival, visit Punakha Dzong — one of Bhutan's most beautiful fortress-monasteries, dramatically positioned between two rivers. Evening: lodge time, valley views, and a slower rhythm.
All meals included · Overnight: COMO Uma Punakha (suggested)
Day 08 Punakha exploration — hikes & cultural sites
+
A day of soft adventure and cultural depth. Gentle hike to a viewpoint chorten (paced to your comfort), riverside walks, scenic pauses, and optional cultural sites or a village-style encounter. This is Punakha at its best — open, warm, and unhurried.
All meals included · Overnight: COMO Uma Punakha (suggested)
Day 09 Punakha to Paro — return & Tiger's Nest
+
Drive back toward Paro (~4 hours). Depending on timing and energy, we'll either hike Tiger's Nest today or adjust to Day 10 for a more relaxed pace. Tiger's Nest is paced as a comfortable pilgrimage with rest stops; pony option available for the first section if desired.
All meals included · Overnight: Amankora Paro (suggested)
Day 10 Paro at leisure — your perfect finish

  • Spa or traditional hot stone bath
  • Private picnic or valley walk
  • Artisan textiles and meaningful gifts
  • Quiet sunset temple visit
This day exists so you don't leave Bhutan feeling rushed.
